Medical records committee can come forward in motivating the user to start using the system. Which is the only way to implement a completely tested system. I think it is not a very difficult task as we overcame the challenge to implement the registration module of the system, where patient rush is maximum.

The uniqueness of the PRMS has been proved, as in its implementation phase several firms are advertising PRMS on the web:

In the near future the system is going to be used round the clock.

The development of Inventory and Procurement system is complete. The department has successfully used the procumbent module to prepare the bidding document. The Inventory system will maintain the stocks of all items under different groups and subgroups. Maintain the reorder level and help in procurement of the items necessary. To implement this module it is important to enter the current stock of the store.

Software going to be developed immediately: Library Management System, software for Nutrition and Biomedical departments.

We are proud to provide browsing facilities in at least 12 points in various departments and also emailing facilities to over 30 addresses. Our proxy server stays online for 6 ½ hours daily.

One of the current concerns of the division is lack of manpower. For proper functioning of different activities of the division at least one more computer technician is needed to support the large LAN set up of the Institute and also for Internet.

ICMH is one of the leading medical institutes using a computer networking for patient care and research. The software that has been developed and implemented could be very much helpful if used in full swing and could be an example for other health institutes.

Future Planning:

How to run the activities smoothly:

With reference to the discussion with the director on 4th February, I am submitting an outline to run the activities smoothly in my absence due to study leave.

Current concerns are:

  • Assist users in different daily computer activities
  • Hardware troubleshooting
  • Network support for online software systems
  • Assistance in Browsing and emailing.
  • Network support for browsing/ email
  • Solving problems in customized software
  • Keep liaison with the suppliers

So we have mail three (3) sectors in computing: software, hardware and network. Our local staff in the CSD can attend in first call of the user. They can solve the problem immediately; depending on the severity of problem on hand the appropriate person can contract the supplier / developer. A list of the supplier and their contact person is attached herewith.

Currently we have contract with a firm for part of our computers and accessories (the items which warranty were over when the contract was signed) for troubleshooting. The party solves the problem with any spare parts if required.

At this moment we have a number of developed software, the free support service period for these are also over. A maintenance contract for the software can be made with the development firm. With our experience dealing with yearly maintenance contract for hardware, I can say it would be better if we make a contract and pay on call basis, depending on the severity of the problem with a predefined measure.

The justification of the specification of computer and accessories for the fiscal year 2001-2002:

We always prefer brand machines over clone PC for their reliability. In this issue we compromise with the extra price to avoid hassle involved in these clones.

The requirements we gathered over the last year are: Computers, UPS, printers, Network expand, RAM upgrade, CD R/W.

The prospective users of the items are:

Computer: Paed head, Fazlur Rahman, Director, Biomedical dept, Admin (nizam), Nutritionist, Primary School

UPS: Paed head, Dr. Fazlur Rahman, Director, Biomedical dept, Admin (nizam), Nutritionist, Primary School, pathology, OBGYN

Network extend (14 points): Paed (Dr. quamrul, Dr. selim, Dr. hannan, Comp operator), Radiology(prof), Path (head, bld trans, mocro bio, biochemistry), obgyn (dr. halim, Dr. saria), biomedical, nutrition, training (asst coord)

Network Aid tool: Punching tool (krone)

Steps to be implemented next:

1. Provide work order to the IBCS-PRIMAX to develop the customized software, according to the meeting minute (reference # ICMH\EBS\CSD\48.1 dated Nov 01, 01). Reference file: Software development.

2. Recruit one more computer technician (for network support) with minimum computer diploma in computer science from any Govt. Polytechnic Institute. Giving priority to the candidates with MCSE or A+ certification. (reference # ICMH\EBS\CSD\48.1 dated Nov 01, 01). Reference file: Software development.

3. Recruit one young energetic computer support staff to assist in hardware and networking. He would be also responsible to attend the computer lab at the time of training programs. Qualification: SSC, age below 25.

4. Internet connection: We should go for 24 hours online service, then our server will run round the clock. It would ease emailing as well as browsing.

5. Windows NT server OS license upgrade, current license for 10 users, but now at least 25 users are using this license. Which in future may cause problem.

6. As the warranty period of the computer and accessories provided by the LEADS Corporation is over, according to their application security money may be released. Ref: file-LEADS.

7. The yearly maintenance contract for part of the computer and accessories was made with the RAIN COMPUTERS, which will be over on 14th April 2002. Their payment will be make from this budget, due to lack of funds the payment was not paid last year. Ref. File-RAIN 2001.

8. Web page development for ICMH.
