Departmental
Objectives:
The Department of Epidemiology
and Biostatistics is a vital department for the Institute.
This is because research is one of the main objectives
of the ICMH.
The
following are the objectives of the department:
- To develop health man power
in Epidemiology and Community Health
- To enhance the research capabilities
of health personnel
- To conduct problem oriented
Essential Health and Nutrition Research
- To provide comprehensive
health care for children and mothers in the community
- To involve in the health
promotion activities in clinical services of the
Institute
- To develop a model health
care service at community level (ESP)
- To develop and maintain an
effective computerised Patient Record Management
System (PRMS) in the institute.
Goal:
The ultimate goal of the above objectives is to bring
about an improvement in health and nutrition status
of the children and mothers in the country.

in the Department of Epidemiology and Bio-Statistics:

Associate Professor and Assistant Professor)
- Computer Programmer

- Community Health Workers
(CHWs)
- Computer Operators
- Auxiliary staff
Physical
Facilities of the Department:
- a class room to accommodate
40 trainees,
- a demonstration room,
- a study area for trainees
having 20 sitting arrangements,
- a computer laboratory,
- a departmental library,
- a surveillance room to organise,
monitor and display the results of the Demographic
Surveillance System (DSS), and
- also work areas for the different
level staff of the department
Field Practice Area:
- Sonargaon community, a population
laboratory
- Six villages around ICMH,
Jalkuri in Narayangang.
Demographic
Surveillance System at Pilkuni:
A village named Pilkuni of Narayanganj sadar upazila
has been selected for Demographic Surveillance. This
surveillance is conducted by the volunteers of the
village.
Activities
of the Department:
Research:
The department is involved in conducting research
in various areas including reproductive health, child
health, nutrition, accidents and injuries, disability,
HIV/AIDS, health service, planning and policy, health
economics, hypertension and infectious disease. Moreover,
the department is also responsible to support other
departments of the institute to conduct various research.
