Department
of Obstetrics and Gynecology:
Mission:
The mission of this faculty is to update the subject
of OBGYN in Bangladesh and to create the subject of
Community Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Vision:
The vision of the department is to become a centre
of excellence in the near future both in its community
activities and in clinical performance. The department
also envisions itself as a regional and international
research and training centre in the subject in future.
Departmental
Objectives :
In conformity with the Institute, the OBGYN department
has the following objectives:
- Training: The department
will update training in the subject. It will make
those training available to the discipline which
are essential for the country but either not available
or are not available in adequate quantity and/or
quality.
- Research: The department
would create a congenial environment to accelerate
essential research in the subject within the Institute.
It would also initiate and participate in research
in the discipline according to the demand of the
country. The department would thus contribute to
build up a research culture in OBGYN in the country.
(In the long run, the department would be able to
contribute globally)
- Service: The OBGYN department
of ICMH would provide services to patients at three
levels, namely, community, outpatient department
and inpatient department. The services would be
client oriented and holistic in approach.
The department would closely
pursue the WHO dyad approach' of working as a mother
and child team in all its activities.

Physical
facilities:
The faculty of OBGYN has ample teaching and training
facilities. There are two training rooms (having facility
for forty participants, 20 in each), students desks
(for 24 students) in the faculty of OBGYN. Moreover,
the Institute has 600 seated conference hall with
a big solarium, dormitory for 60 trainees, training
and communication centre, eight conference halls,
videography studio for training material development,
a video editing suit and a video library.
Training activities:
ICMH is a unique national level training centre for
health and nutrition of children and mothers every
year 1000-1500 health workers and health professional
of different levels will be trained here. A good number
of training courses have already been accomplished,
such as training on reproductive health for doctors
and nurses, training of trainers on breast feeding,
training on nutrition, post graduate training courses
on obstetrics and gynaecology, training course for
1st year and 2nd year BSC nurses, EOC training, ESP
training. OBGYN faculty is also involved along with
Epidemiology & Bio-statistics department in training
and research activities.
Conference
activities:
An international
conference on 'Severe anemia during pregnancy' was
organised jointly by Micronutrient Initiative and
ICMH. Another regional workshop on 'Neonatal resuscitation
and Essential newborn care' was held here organised
jointly by ICMH and All India Institute of Medical
Science. Besides these, various workshops and seminars
of different national institutes are held here regularly.
An international course in reproductive health was
organized jointly by South to South University and
ICMH. An international conference on "safe communities"
was held on February, 2000.
