Physical Facilities of the Department:

Surveillance System (DSS), and
- also work areas for the different
level staff of the department

Demographic Surveillance System
at Pilkuni:
A village named Pilkuni of Narayanganj sadar upazila
has been selected for Demographic Surveillance. This
surveillance is conducted by the volunteers of the
village.
4 Activities
of the Department:
Research:
The department is involved in conducting research
in various areas including reproductive health, child
health, nutrition, accidents and injuries, disability,
HIV/AIDS, health service, planning and policy, health
economics, hypertension and infectious disease. Moreover,
the department is also responsible to support other
departments of the institute to conduct various research.

Brief Report of the first training
on Essential of Health and Nutrition Research for
Health Professionals.A two-week (five days a week)
training course on Essential of Health and Nutrition
Research for Health Professionals was organised by
the Dept. of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, ICMH
between January 23, 2000 and February 5, 2000. There
were eleven participants all together. Graduate doctors,
educationist and economist comprised the group. ICMH
academic staff and some guest lecturers were the resource
persons of the sessions. Both theoretical and practical
sessions were provided. A great enthusiasm was observed
among the participants. The closing session was chaired
by the Director of the institute. Getting a very positive
feed back from the participants regarding the unique
quality of the course, he encouraged the academics
of Epidemiology and Biostatistics to organised the
course at least thrice in a year.
